Become the Woman God Uses for His Glory

Luke 10:40-41

Imagine planning to visit your sister's home because this is the house for big things like Thanksgiving dinners and great conversations. When you get there, you realize the exceptional guest is there, and he shares a profound message that captivates the house. What he's sharing are the answers to what you've been wrestling with for years. The answers are just pouring out of his heart directly to you.

Like everyone else, no one knows how the food is getting done. All the guests seemed unaware that the space was filled with delicious smells. You faintly hear the clamor of preparation in the background, and it's too hard to resist what you hear. The unknown guest of honor invites you to listen and learn more deeply. Just then, a voice in the distance is vying for your attention, and it's the host, your big sister Martha. "Ahem, Jesus, why don't you care how I am working?" Mary knows better than to leave me hanging, and she doesn't care either. Martha was upset with Jesus, and

Martha's tangible and audible frustration was evident, and while her sister Mary was listening, Martha felt she should've been helping. Mary couldn't turn away but decided that sitting at the feet of Jesus to listen intently was a better use of her time. Martha gets a bad rap for her inability not to be so able. Jesus knew her excellence and enjoyed her hospitality thoroughly and often. He was hearing more than what was being said. He asked her to sit with Mary and do what she was doing. This time was for her, too. She refused because she had not fully submitted to his way of doing things. For Martha to accept his invitation to rest meant she had it all wrong this time.

I love it when Jesus teaches with a juxtaposed present. It makes the message more powerful and easier to understand. It stood out to me when Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen the better part.  I realized there are times in our busy lives when we hold our lives, work responsibilities, and families together. We sit in the tension of needing what we call balance, knowing everyone's schedules and plans, all while not having a good grip on ourselves, can be daunting. We can be so busy that we forget to stop and sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to his voice. What does submitting to God look like for you? I don't think we give sitting at the feet of Jesus the honor it deserves. God's strategy to help us do what we need to do is crucial and life-saving. You may feel that taking a break is a setback. Can you carve out time to rest from running and pause the panic for the importance of grace and more faith? It will bring you the strength you need.

Heart Prompt:

I want you to take time this week and practice sitting at Jesus's feet, whether in your car for 15 minutes or in the morning, for some intentional quiet time. Opening up your Bible and reading it will be the game changer for your life. If you battle insomnia, try reading at night. That's the best time; everyone's asleep, and I open my Bible and read a passage or two or ten. Pray about everything and ask God to give you the revealed truth. Set the tone for your next day by getting ahead of all. Now, ready your heart as you prepare to witness how much he cares about you and the things that concern you. Be encouraged; you've taken a moment to sit at his feet instead of staying busy and being frustrated about doing it all alone.

Our Prayer 🙏

Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you for the mind to be ready to sit and listen. I receive the truth of your kingdom, and it isn't like this world's system.  Busy isn't always better, so I choose the pathway of wisdom to have the peace you promised. I lean my ear to your instruction so you can give me a divine strategy on what I need to do next. You will bless the work of my hands as I learn to rest my hands in yours.

In Jesus' name, Amen!
